This is Who I Am

Posted March 29th, 2007

I love to write songs. I am a passionate person and I live intentionally. I don’t like to waste time, even though I do it from time to time.

I lead music at my church. I play the piano and try to play the guitar. Until a few years ago, I didn’t consider myself to be a singer. Maybe you still don’t.

I am a fan of technology and I’m a student of everything. Consequently, I tend to try to do everything myself. This CD release is an example of this. I am writer, producer, instrumentalist, marketer, website designer, publicist and street team leader. That isn’t to say that I have done this whole project without any help from anyone else–I have had lots of help. I’m just a consummate DIY’er. Perhaps to a fault. Perhaps.

I’ve created a CD that has a bunch of honest songs that I’ve written these last couple years. The point of putting them together on a CD called Okay was simply to send a message to people who are in that place–where everything seems to be falling apart–and you don’t know if it’s all going to be okay. I’m here to tell you that it will be. Somehow, it will be. If anything you hear touches you or resonates, I hope you’ll pass it along to someone else. I’ve been hanging out with these songs too long now. I’m excited that they have other, more interesting people to meet now.

Here’s some details about what’s going to happen over the next 3 months for those who are keeping score. Call it a marketing plan, if you want. It is what it is.

Phase 1 - I’m releasing the music digitally. I’m going to do this in as many places as possible.

Phase 2 - I’m releasing the music on CD. This will happen a little further down the road.

Phase 3 - I’ll be mailing CD’s to people who have never heard of me and hopefully encouraging them to share the music with others. This will include, but not necessarily be limited to, magazines, indie radio stations, local newspapers, web radio and music podcasters. If you think of someone who might be willing to share this music with an audience, let me know. I’ll also be playing out more. I’ve got dates in Colorado and even Minnesota lined up right now. I have a full-time job so I won’t tour right now, but I am entertaining some travel.

Tomorrow is the ONLINE RELEASE OF “OKAY.” A few people I have emailed seem to be confused about whether there’s actually a local event. There’s not. Just the internet. If you have a computer and an internet connection, you can join me. I’m setting up a chat room and I’m going to give away at least 5 door prizes to people who sign the guest book between Friday and Sunday. All the details will be posted tomorrow morning.
