To the People of Thrifty Car Rental IND

Posted November 28th, 2007

I don’t hate Thrifty Car Rental. In fact, my first choice when I rent cars is Thrifty because their rates are consistently the lowest. But Sunday morning was frustrating. And easily remedied.

When traveling, people return cars using the airport signs. They find the sign that says “Thrifty” and they follow it hoping it will lead them to a lot full of other slightly used cars owned by the same company. Not so at Thrifty Car Rental at the Indianapolis Airport. After one or two (perhaps three) cell phone calls to the desk attendant you eventually find the rental lot and the small pieces of paper taped to the attendant’s counter that say “When returning your car, don’t follow the airport signs. Instead refer to the directions on your receipt folder.”

So, I don’t know exactly how many people rent cars there at the IND airport with Thrifty, but on behalf of all of us, let me apologize to the counter attendant who has to answer our repeated calls to find the lot and to the Thrifty shuttle operator who has to take disgruntled, late and otherwise generously tipping passengers to the ticketing area. Hopefully your management will install another sign or two someday.

    King Crim,

Honestly, the Indianapolis International Airport seems to be in a phase of neglect, as the new 1.1 billion dollar terminal is being built and is due to open next year. This leads me to believe that you will not see any improvements at all to the current facility - not even a new Thrifty sign.

Are you coming home for Christmas? If so, I hope we can get together for lunch or dinner. It would be great to see you.

    Hey Rick,
Afraid I’ve made my only trip to Indiana for the holidays. Was a brief Thanksgiving trip, so didn’t get to see everyone this time. Hopefully we can connect before too long. Thanks for the comment and heads up about the new terminal!
