Live Less Anonymously

Posted December 21st, 2007

This is not news.

Peas are taking over twitter.com. A large group of users on Twitter currently have images of peas somewhere in their profile pic. And unless you know what’s going on you’d probably be caught off guard by the presumed legume-loving crowd therein.

In fact, the peas are there as a sign of solidarity. They are to support one twitter user, Susan Reynolds, who today will undergo surgery and have a breast removed. In short, she has used a bag of frozen peas to ease the pain associated with her breast cancer diagnosis. In more ways than one. She’s posted a bit to her blog this morning.

I’m about to lose it right now as I type. The fact that hundreds of social network geeks like me would take the time to edit their online identity in support of someone they’ve never met in real life is overwhelmingly cool to me. See the cumulative effect on Susan’s twitter page here. Spontaneous support blogs and fund-raising efforts have kicked into gear–all in the short span of time since December 5 when Susan decided she might need to see a doctor.

But, like I said, this is not news. Lots of people know about this. I just wanted to share it with my little circle of friends.

And I want to encourage you to live less anonymously–whether it’s in real life or whether it’s online. It doesn’t mean you have to trust everyone who asks for your credit card or social security number. Just don’t hide from your neighbors. Know and be known.

Too often we seek refuge from the very thing that we need.

Please take a second to pray for Susan today.

Rico’s [Christmas Edition]

Posted December 19th, 2007

Playing downtown Colorado Springs yet again on Saturday night at Rico’s Cafe. The pizza is delicious, the coffee is hot and the stage is small. Fortunately for you, all my fans are intelligent and smell great.

We’re going to do the live web cast again. The last video clip has been viewed over 400 times as of this post. I’m amazed honestly. And wish it were a little less rough to be honest. Oh well, we keep it real around here.

Things kick off at 7:30p and we’ll play till at least 10pm. No pets allowed. Unless you have a sugar glider that lives in your shirt.

Life is Full of…

Posted December 14th, 2007

“Life is so full of pain,” I said, upon learning of another friend’s hardship, but not really thinking of anything but my own disappointment and trials.

“But it’s also really full of happiness and hope,” she said without blinking in the way that makes people want to be around her all the time.

That’s how I want to see life this Christmas.

Site Updates

Posted December 13th, 2007

I’ve done a little housecleaning here on the site that you should probably know about.

First, the row of colorful buttons there on the top right of the sidebar are links to a few of my various social properties around the web. You can get to my facebook, myspace, virb, ilike, last.fm pages and more, and I’ve added a link to allow you to subscribe to the rss feed via email.

Next, I’ve expanded the whole page and increased the font size of my blog. Besides that, you can also find a list of most popular posts on the sidebar and on each permalink page there are related posts listed below the entry.

Finally, there’s now a shiny CONTACT ME button at the bottom of the page where you can link to a contact form. And, just below that, I’ve added a chat window to allow you to connect with me on AIM whenever I’m online.

Have a great weekend! I’m going to plan to be online at ustream.tv at some point this weekend. Be well!
