Press exposure for What Birds Dream is growing. Not only has it enjoyed Italian and Chinese exposure, it also has some appeal in Germany as well.

I have no idea what this says, but I was alerted to it this week:

而他的最新個人專輯《What Birds Dream》，同樣是自資出版，同樣是承接著其深思熟類型的流行音樂路線，但跟其上張碟不同的是Jeff今趟多加了不同的音樂元素及類形。好像在〈15 Minutes Away〉、〈Reggie’s In The Window Again〉及〈Grace In The Meantime〉中，Jeff就作了一些較Upbeat的嘗試，聽起來都是充滿盼望、朝氣的。不能不提的是在〈Not Houdini〉一曲，Jeff加了一些夾雜著藍調及爵士樂的元素，不然令人想起The Beatles的〈Oh Darling〉。這也許是跟Jeff在學生年代修續過爵士樂的課堂有關。

Actually, I do know that it’s part of a good review of my new CD What Birds Dream in Traditional Chinese. But other than that, I can only recognize about 5 of these characters. If you can read Chinese (or just have a fascination about it like me) have a look at the full review here.

Press Feature on Producer Gavin Harrison

Tomorrow, June 30th, the new Remix album will be available. In case you haven’t heard, I’m releasing a 9 track remix project with the very talented electronic music producer, Gavin Harrison. Gavin and I teamed up on a song called Perspective from my album called Okay. I received so much good feedback on that song, and enjoyed the song so much personally, that we decided to do a full album project together. More about that tomorrow, though.

Gavin and I are working hard to promote the newest music we’ve recorded together and the following is a story from the Bury Free Press in the UK. Click the image to see a higher resolution scan of the newspaper page.

I took part in a fun interview last night (or earlier today, depending on your current position relative to the sun). All questions and answers were done via twitter so perhaps the meaningfulness (and economy) of each response should be judged accordingly.

Thanks again to my friends at Boundless. They do some really thoughtful stuff over there, including a webzine, blog and podcast.

TY Radio Appearance with Wong Chi Chung

This week I made an appearance on a great college Internet program here in Hong Kong called TY Radio.
This was my second visit to the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. They have a very cool studio set up in the corner of the cafeteria so students can watch/listen to the broadcast from the common area.

The other guest on Wednesday was Wong Chi Chung, who has been known in Hong Kong for the past couple decades on a radio program called “Chi Chung’s Choice.”

Yes, I was really that interested in what Chi Chung had to say. He’s not only a very experienced music critic, Chi Chung is a doctoral candidate whose thesis involves music and social issues.

It was an honor to be on the final program of the school year, so thanks Dr. Lau, Michael, Mann, Mandy and the rest of the students at IVE!

Radar Radio – The Best Radio You’ve Never Heard

Radar Radio is chock full of music they claim is the Best Songs You’ve Never Heard. I’m not sure it would be fair for me to make a judgment about that statement’s accuracy since I’m on the program this weekend. However, I will say that a few of my favorite singer-songwriters have been included on the program and they’re not all household names. If you like Andrew Peterson, Randall Goodgame, Derek Webb and Brooke Frasier, then check out some of the great music on the podcast. If you’ve not heard of any of these artists, then the show is for you. Go ahead. Click it.

Shows and More Shows

It’s shaping up to be a pretty busy season, musically. I did a show on the 6th with the band and we managed a pretty favorable review out of it. Great turn out and just a really fun night all the way around. Thanks for coming out and supporting us at The Melting Pot (Underground Style), Hong Kong! Here’s an excerpt of the review from konghongrock.blogspot.com:

… As soon as these guys stepped into The Melting Pot, they oozed confidence and as we would eventually learn, this was not at all misplaced. Jeff Caylor’s band consists of himself as the lead singer and pianist, an acoustic guitarist who helps out with the harmonies, a bassist and a drummer. After a quick set up and introduction from Chris B, Caylor counted in the band to their 6 song attention grabbing set… It’s also good music. It gets the feet tapping before the head realises it, and usually the songs themselves are tales of interesting events or emotions.

I’m opening for some very talented ladies from down under next Friday, December 19th at a show in Quarry Bay at the Island ECC Gallery (633 King’s Road, 2/F). I’ll do about 3 or 4 songs solo at about 8pm, and then enjoy the rest of the night listening to them. Their names are Deb Fung and Alarice. Check them out.

I’ll be taking a short holiday to Sydney and then back to Hong Kong for a couple more dates in January. See the gigs page for all the details. I’m going to try to do another live web cast on January 15th. That will be a solo set, as well.

RTHK Morning Brew and Pizza Corn

I was walking down the street yesterday and when I passed Pizza Hut I suddenly remembered what I need to tell people when they ask me what surprises me about living in Hong Kong.

Pizza corn.

Corn is a common pizza topping and it comes standard on personal pizzas at Pizza Hut. It’s surprising and sometimes disappointing. Didn’t corn come from the Native Americans? And didn’t pizza come from Italy? How do these two come together in Hong Kong? I’m thinking about this today. Unfortunately, I wasn’t thinking about it during my Radio Television Hong Kong Morning Brew radio interview with Phil Whelan yesterday. Instead, when asked what surprises me about Hong Kong, I said something generic and very forgettable.

But the rest of the interview was pretty fun. Phil Whelan was a gentleman and a complete pro. We talked for a good while and he generously played three of my songs on the air. I had a great time. You can click the link below to check it out, where I’ve edited out the songs for your convenience.
